Leatherby's Cafe Rouge

Came to Leatherby's on Friday night with our friends who are also wine enthusiasts. Since Leatherby's has no corkage fee and has solid food, it has become one of our favorite OC spots. FYI: Leatherby's is located in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall (Orange County Performing Arts Center) and is only open for dinner.

Reservations were for 7pm, but we got there a little early so we decided to grab some appetizers and a drink at the bar. Leatherby's has happy hour specials on weekdays and the prices are incredible! Check out the happy hour menu below (click on the photo to enlarge).

We ordered the duck confit crepe and the buffalo sliders. We've been here a few times for happy hour, but they always run out of the buffalo sliders- so this time, we snatched them up.

Duck Confit Crepe
Loads of duck confit in a creamy sauce with a hint of spice, all nestled in a crepe. It's served with hoisin sauce (sweet Chinese sauce) that gives a nice contrast to the duck confit. However, I think even without the hoisin sauce, the crepe will great as is!

-regular $9-

Buffalo Sliders
There are 3 mini buffalo sliders, each topped with caramelized red onion, thick bacon, and gruyere cheese on a dinner roll. For those of you who have never tried buffalo meat, it's a little heartier than beef with a great texture to it. I love that it's paired with caramelized onion and bacon (two of my favorite toppings!).

-regular $11-

Since this was a wine-pairing dinner, how can we pass up on wine with our buffalo sliders and duck confit. We opened up a nice bottle of 2005 Yalumba Shiraz and Viognier from the Barossa Valley. I'm a Shiraz fan, but the distinctive bold taste can be overpowering at times... however, with the addition of the Viognier, it smooths out the finish and leaves a rather long after taste. Lots of berry flavors with a hint of chocolate- it was a great complement to our appetizers! Did I mention that this bottle used hand-picked grapes (aka: the best of the season!)...
