Tradition by Pascal

Came here for dinner last night for Pascal's 21st anniversay. As always, our meal was a huge delight... not just because it was delicious but it didn't dent our wallets either. In celebration of Pascal's 21st anniversary, all of their traditional entrees are only $21 each. If you haven't been yet, you've been missing out on a neighborhood gem in Newport Beach. Enjoy~

Escargot Cassolette “Christine”
Escargot in a buttery garlic sauce with raisins and pine nuts - served with toasted wheat bread.

Warm Goat Cheese Salad, Mixed Baby Greens and a Walnut Vinaigrette
Breaded goat cheese is pan fried and placed on top of mixed greens, including very fresh green beans. There were scattered bits of walnuts in a walnut vinaigrette. I'm not much of a fan of walnuts so I wasn't crazy about the dressing, but the warm goat cheese melted in my mouth!

Thyme Crusted Sea Bass, Seafood Chardonnay Sauce
This is a house specialty and I can see why... this is one of the best fish dishes I've had. For those of you who love Maison Akira's Miso Marinated Grilled Sea Bass, this is just as good, if not better. The sea bass is cooked to perfection- delicate and juicy. The thyme crust complements the tomato puree (below sea bass) and contrasts with the chardonnay sauce so that not one particular taste overwhelms the dish. If you like seafood, this is a must!

Bouillabaisse Provençal
Aka: French fish stew (in this case, some fish, clams, mussels, scallops, calamari, and potatoes). When I come to Pascal and I am cravin' for seafood, this is my go-to dish. The seafood is great quality- what the chive is on is a ginormous scallop! But the essence of the dish isn't the seafood, but the broth... oh that savory, seafood-tasting broth that took them hours to simmer. That is the essence of the dish!

It was just the two of us and we were stuffed... so no dessert this time. But I do love their cheesecake souffle :) Can't wait to go back again (and maybe I will just have to skip lunch to squeeze in that souffle)!
